Volleyball’s Carfagno, Laughlin Garner AVCA All-Region Honors

WELLESLEY, Mass. -- Wellesley College volleyball senior co-captains Sydney Carfagno and Caitlin Laughlin have both received All-Region honors, as announced by the American volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA). 

Carfagno was named to the New England All-Region team for the fourth consecutive year. She is the only member of this year's All-Region team to earn the honor in all four years of her collegiate career. The Los Angeles, California native had a team-leading 365 kills while averaging 3.61 kills/set  this season. She also registered a team-leading 343 digs and added 33 service aces, 30 total blocks and 18 assists. She was named the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) player of the week on November 2 after totaling 45 kills to lead the Blue to a pair of 3-2 victories over Coast Guard and Springfield. 

Laughlin earned All-Region Honorable Mention, her first such recognition, after completing her senior season second on the Blue with 234 kills while hitting a team-leading .252. The senior from St. Louis Park, Minn. added a team leading 61 total blocks. Laughlin also earned the NEWMAC Player of the Week Award for the period ending October 5, thanks in part to leading the Blue to victory over then regionally ranked No. 1 UMass Boston with a 10 kill and four block performance. 

Blue Volleyball closed the 2014 season with a 17-11 (6-4 NEWMAC) record, falling to regular season champion MIT in the semifinals of the NEWMAC Championship Tournament.
