Blue Volleyball Sweeps Past Hamilton, Trinity at Hall of Fame Invite

AMHERST, Mass. -- Wellesley College volleyball swept past Hamilton College and Trinity College (Conn.) to finish the 26th annual Hall of Fame Invitational with a perfect 3-0 record. After defeating host Amherst, 3-2, on Friday night, the Blue returned on Saturday to defeat Hamilton, 3-0 (25-23, 25-21, 25-21), and Trinity, 3-0 (25-22, 25-13, 25-14).

Wellesley has now won 15 of the team's last 16 matches to improve to 17-4 overall.

First year Lauren Gedney (Huntersville, N.C.) powered down 11 kills and added a pair of blocks to lead the Blue to a hard-fought 3-0 sweep over the Continentals.

Junior Yasmine Reece (New Rochelle, N.Y.) added nine kills, while first year Darina Postupaka (Tinley Park, Ill.) chipped in with seven. On defense, junior Samantha Hoang (Elk Grove, Calif.) and sophomore Meghan Shoop (Cypress, Calif.) combined for 25 digs, with Hoang registering a team-leading 15 and Shoop adding 10. Junior Michelle Li (Scarsdale, N.Y.) orchestrated the Blue attack with 32 assists.

Wellesley held of the Continentals for a 25-23 victory in the first set. The Blue then put together matching 25-21 wins in the second and third sets to win their opening match, 3-0.

Gedney and the Blue cruised past Trinity (Conn.) in the nightcap, as Wellesley's first year outside hitter once again led the way, this time with 10 kills. Reece chipped in with six more kills, while Li and first year Nikki Jensen (Castro Valley, Calif.) each added four kills and junior Ashley Peng (San Diego, Calif.) finished with four service aces. Hoang, Li, and Peng all finished with four digs, with Li adding 21 assists to finish the day with 53.

For the second-straight match, the Blue held off their opponents for a close win in the first set, this time taking a 25-22 victory over the Bantams. The Blue followed up with commanding wins in the second and third sets, taking a 25-13 win in set two and closing out the sweep with a 25-14 win.

Wellesley will return to New England Women's & Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) action on Tuesday night, October 24, with a 7:00 PM match at cross-town rival Babson College.
