Wellesley's Reece, Gedney Named To NEWMAC Volleyball All-Conference Squad

WELLESLEY, Mass. – The New England Women's & Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) announced the 2017 Volleyball All-Conference team on Tuesday and Wellesley College junior Yasmine Reece (New Rochelle, N.Y.) and first year Lauren Gedney (Huntersville, N.C.) have each earned All-Conference recognition. Reece was named to the All-Conference first team, while Gedney grabbed a spot on the All-Conference second team.

Reece earns NEWMAC All-Conference first team honors for the third time in her Wellesley career. The NEWMAC Offensive Athlete of the Week on October 10th and the NEWMAC Defensive Athlete of the Week on October 23rd, Reece finished the year with 262 kills and 99 total blocks. Her .338 hitting percentage and 1.02 blocks per set  ranked her second in the NEWMAC in both categories, while her 35 kills in Wellesley's five-set win over Clark on October 3rd is tied for the top mark in the NCAA for kills in a five-set match this season.

Gedney has been Wellesley's leader on offense this season. She is fourth in the NEWMAC and first on the Blue with 358 kills and a 3.51 kills per set average. The NEWMAC Co-Offensive Athlete of the Week on October 2nd, Gedney earned All-Tournament accolades at the MIT Invitational after finishing the weekend with 46 kills, 25 digs and four aces. She has registered three games with 20 or more kills this season, including a career-high 22 in Wellesley's 3-1 victory over Springfield on September 30th.

Wellesley (22-6 overall) will play Wesleyan (Conn.) in the first round of the NCAA Tournament on Friday, November 10, at 5:30 PM at Johnson & Wales University in Providence, R.I.
