Wellesley Volleyball's Reece, Gedney, Mota Garner NEWVA Postseason Awards

WELLESLEY, Mass. – The New England Women's Volleyball Association (NEWVA) announced its annual awards following the conclusion of the 2017 season and Wellesley College junior Yasmine Reece (New Rochelle, N.Y.), first year Lauren Gedney (Huntersville, N.C.) and senior Alina Mota (Glendora, Calif.) all earned postseason honors. 

Reece was selected to the NEWVA All-New England First Team for the first time in her career, while Gedney earned a spot on the NEWVA All-Rookie Team, and Mota was selected to play in the annual Senior Classic All-Star game. 

Yasmine Reece – NEWVA All-New England First Team

An honorable mention AVCA All-American, AVCA New England All-Region selection, and a New England Women's & Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) All-Conference first team selection in 2017, Reece adds NEWVA First Team honors after posting 270 kills, 100 digs, and 102 blocks in 29 matches in 2017. A NEWVA Second Team selection in 2015, Reece adds first team honors to an already impressive resume and stands just seven kills shy of 1000 in her Wellesley career.

Lauren Gedney – NEWVA All-Rookie Team

Gedney registered 367 kills in 29 matches as a first year, leading the Blue offense in kills en route to NEWMAC All-Conference second team honors in 2017. She adds NEWVA All-Rookie recognition to a season that also included a NEWMAC Offensive Athlete of the Week award and All-Tournament accolades at the MIT Invitational.

Alina Mota – NEWVA Senior Classic All- Star Selection

The lone senior on Wellesley's roster this season, Mota was selected to participate in the annual Senior Game on December 3 but was unable to attend. Mota finished her Wellesley career with 415 digs in 99 matches, playing a total of 309 sets while chipping in 42 assists. 

The NEWVA Annual Award recipients are nominated by and voted on by the organization's member head coaches. The coaches represent the seven competing conferences in NCAA Division III including the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC), Little East Conference (LEC), Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC), North Atlantic Conference (NAC), New England Collegiate Conference (NECC), New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC), and New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC).
