Wellesley Volleyball Routs Amherst To Open Hall of Fame Invitational

AMHERST, Mass. -- Wellesley College volleyball opened the 2018 Hall of Fame Invitational with a resounding 3-0 (25-10, 25-12, 25-21) non-conference victory over Amherst College on Friday at LeFrak Gymnasium.

Wellesley, ranked No. 7 in the region in this fall's initial NCAA regional rankings, improves to 16-4 overall. Amherst, the No.12 team in the regional rankings, drops to 15-4 on the season.

Senior setter Michelle Li (Scarsdale, N.Y.) totaled 37 assists to lead the Blue to a .323 attack percentage in the match. Sophomore Lauren Gedney (Huntersville, N.Y.) and first year Nicole Doerges (San Marino, Calif.) each finished in double-figures with 13 and 12 kills, respectively, to lead the Blue. Senior Yasmine Reece (New Rochelle, N.Y.)added nine kills and four total blocks. Senior Samantha Hoang (Elk Grove, Calif.) racked-up 23 of Wellesley's 55 digs in the match. 

Sophomore Jamie Dailey (Newport Coast, Calif.) led Amherst with 8 kills, while classmate Daria Kim-Percy (Los Angeles, Calif.) added six kills and eight digs. The Mammoths struggled offensively and finished the match with just a .051 attack percentage. First year Skyleur Savage (San Jose, Calif.) finished with 10 digs to lead the Amherst defense.

Wellesley cruised past the Mammoths in the first two sets, limiting the hosts to one kill in a 25-10 opening set victory before hitting .481 with 15 kills as a squad to earn a 25-12 win in the second set. With Wellesley leading 2-0 in the match, Amherst rallied to start the second set with an 11-8 lead. However, the Blue erased the deficit as the team's played to a 20-20 tie.

With the match tied, the Blue scored four straight points to put the Mammaoths on the brink. A kill from Kim-Percy stopped the run, but Doerges ended the match on the next rally, putting down a kill on an assist from Li to give the Blue a 25-21 win in the set and a 3-0 win in the match.  

Wellesley will close out the Hall of Fame Invitational with a pair of matches on Saturday. The Blue will take on Hamilton at 1:00 PM and Bowdoin at 3:00 PM.
