Wellesley Volleyball Earns At-Large Selection to 2018 NCAA DIII Championship

WELLESLEY, Mass. -- Wellesley College volleyball has earned an at-large selection to the 2018 NCAA Division III Women's Volleyball Championship. The Blue (20-6 overall) will play Wentworth (25-4 overall) in the First Round on Friday, November 9, at Babson College's Staake Gymnasium. Friday's match is scheduled for 5:30 PM. 

Lucky Number 13:

Wellesley will be making the program's second consecutive and 13th overall trip to the NCAA volleyball tournament... the Blue have been to the NCAA Tournament 12 times under the direction of Head Coach Dorothy Webb, collecting an all-time record of 17-13... The Blue dropped a 3-0 decision to Wesleyan (Conn.) in last year's NCAA First Round in Providence, R.I.... Wellesley has advanced to five NCAA National Quarterfinals and making two Final Four (1998, 2001) appearances.

NEWMAC Attack:

The Blue earned an at-large bid despite falling to New England Women's & Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) regular-season champion Springfield in the NEWMAC semifinals... Wellesley, Springfield, and regional host Babson will all represent the NEWMAC in this year's NCAA tournament... The Blue earned three NEWMAC All-Conference selections on Tuesday, headlined by senior Yasmine Reece (New Rochelle, N.Y.) fourth straight selection to the All-Conference First Team... senior setter Michelle Li (Scarsdale, N.Y.) and sophomore Lauren Gedney (Huntersville, N.C.) were each named All-Conference Second Team.  

Scouting The Leopards:

Wentworth earned an automatic bid after claiming the program's first-ever Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) championship in a three-set sweep of Roger Williams on Sunday... Under the direction of Head Coach Evin Giglio, the 2018 CCC Coach of the Year, the Leopards have matched a program record for wins this season with 25... Wentworth is led by junior Leah Rogoz (Woodridge, Ill.), who had team-highs with 343 kills and 311 digs this season and earned her third straight selection to the CCC All-Conference first team... Friday's match will be Wentworth's first NCAA Tournament appearance. 

What's at Stake at Staake:

The winner of the Wellesley vs. Wentworth match-up will play the winner of regional host Babson (23-8 overall, 8-2 NEWMAC) and Mount St. Vincent (14-16 overall, 9-4 Skyline) on Saturday at 5:00 PM in the regional semifinals on Staake Gymnasium... Sunday's regional final will take place at 2:00 PM... The winner of this weekend's regional will advance to the NCAA Division III quarterfinals, November 15-17, 2018, at the A.J. Palumbo Center in Pittsburgh, Pa.
