Volleyball's Reece, Gedney, Li, Doerges Collect AVCA/NEWVA DIII All-Region Honors
WELLESLEY, Mass. -- The American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) and the New England Women's Volleyball Association (NEWVA) have announced their annual All-Region awards and four members of the Wellesley College volleyball team have been honored for their play throughout the 2018 season.
Senior Yasmine Reece (New Rochelle, N.Y.) and sophomore Lauren Gedney (Huntersville, N.C.) were each named to the AVCA New England All-Region team, while Reece was also named a NEWVA All-Region First Team selection. Senior Michelle Li (Scarsdale, N.Y.) was an honorable mention AVCA All-Region selection, while first year Nicole Doerges (San Marino, Calif.) was named to the NEWVA All-Rookie Team.

An AVCA New England selection in 2015 and 2017, Reece earns her third AVCA All-Region selection following a season in which she finished second on the Blue with 301 kills and led the team with 93 total blocks. Reece was also an AVCA honorable mention All-Region selection in 2016. She lands on the NEWVA First Team for the second straight season after also receiving NEWVA Second Team and All-Rookie honors in 2015. Reece is currently six kills shy of 1,300 in her Wellesley career, ranking her among the all-time leaders in program history.
Lauren Gedney | So. | Huntersville, N.Y. | AVCA New England All-Region
Gedney lands on the AVCA New England All-Region team for the first time in her career after garnering AVCA honorable mention status as a first year in 2017. Gedney finished the year as Wellesley's team leader in kills with 311 and currently has 678 kills through 55 career matches. A NEWVA All-Rookie selection in 2017, Gedney has also earned New England Women's & Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) All-Conference honors in each of her first two years with the Blue and is averaging 3.44 kills per set in her career.
Michelle Li | Sr. | Scarsdale, N.Y. | Honorable Mention AVCA New England All-Region
The Blue's senior setter has now earned honorable mention AVCA New England All-Region honors in each of the last two seasons after finishing this year with 833 assists in 23 matches played. Li has 3,477 assists and will leave Wellesley as one of the program's all-time leaders in assists, having averaged 8.62 assists per set over 404 career sets played. She saved her best for last, averaging a career-high 9.92 assists per set as a senior in 2018.
Nicole Doerges | Fy. | San Marino, Calif. | NEWVA All-Rookie Team
Doerges becomes the third Wellesley player in the last four years to land on the NEWVA All-Rookie team, joining Reece and Gedney following a first year campaign that saw her collect 213 kills, 203 digs and 27 aces. In all, Doerges has three double-doubles on the season and has finished with double-digit kills in nine contests, including a season-high 19 in a 3-2 setback against rival Springfield on Sept. 29.
Wellesley volleyball will take on Wentworth later today, Friday, November 9, at 5:30 PM in the First Round of the NCAA Division III Women's Volleyball Championship.
