Wellesley's Reece, Gedney Named 2018 AVCA DIII Honorable Mention All-America

LEXINGTON, Ky. -- The American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) has announced the 38th annual AVCA All-America teams for NCAA Division III women's volleyball. Wellesley College volleyball senior Yasmine Reece (New Rochelle, N.Y.) and sophomore Lauren Gedney (Huntersville, N.C.) have each earned Honorable Mention All-America honors for the 2018 season. The award is the third career honorable mention All-America honor for Reece (2015, 2017) and the first career selection for Gedney. 

The 2018 All-America selections were made by the AVCA Division III All-America Committee: Tim Byram, Endicott, chairperson; DeAnn Woodin, Coe College; Lindsay Birch, Christopher Newport; Amber Warners, Calvin College; Paul Schlomer, Edgewood College; Hilda Arrechea, Skidmore College; Josh Edmed, Connecticut College; Danny Miller, Averett University; Marci Allison, UT Dallas.

Yasmine Reece | Sr. | New Rochelle, N.Y. | AVCA Division III Honorable Mention All-America 

A New England Women's & Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC), AVCA, and NEWVA All-Region honoree in 2018, Reece's AVCA Honorable Mention All-America honor is the third of her career, following selections in 2015 and 2017. The senior middle hitter closed out a standout career with a team-high 330 kills, 101 blocks, and 51 digs in 27 matches during her senior season. She was named to the NCAA Tournament Babson Park Regional All-Tournament Team after leading the Blue to their second straight at-large selection to the NCAA Division III Championship. 

Lauren Gedney | So. | Huntersville, N.C. | AVCA Division III Honorable Mention All-America

Gedney earns her first career AVCA Honorable Mention All-America honor after also being named a NEWMAC and AVCA All-Region selection in 2018. Gedney finished second on the Blue with 327 kills in 28 matches, averaging 3.34 kills per set in her sophomore season. She had a career-high 25 kills in a 3-2 win over WPI on September 22 and also eclipsed the 20-kill mark with 22 in a five set win over Babson on October 23. In all, she finished with double-digit kills 18 times in 2018.  

The AVCA, with its headquarters in Lexington, Ky., is managed by Associations International. The mission of the AVCA is to advance the sport of volleyball with AVCA coaches at the epicenter of leadership, advocacy and professional development. With a membership of almost 7,000 and counting, the AVCA provides a professional network for those individuals and companies dedicated to enhancing and promoting the sport. Members include collegiate, high school, club, youth and Olympic coaches, as well as volleyball club directors. The AVCA provides education to volleyball coaches, recognition of elite players and coaches, promotion of volleyball competitions throughout the world, and networking opportunities for volleyball products and services providers.
