Kreidel Leads Blue Cross Country To Title at RWU Invitational

BRISTOL, R.I. – Senior Mary Kreidel (Boerne, Texas) took the individual title in 19:05.31 to lead No. 27 Wellesley College cross country to a first place finish at the 2016 Roger Williams Invitational on Saturday at Colt State Park.

Wellesley placed three of the top-five, and four of the top-ten, runners in the field to finish with 37 points. The win is the second in-a-row at the event for Wellesley, as the Blue also won the RWU Invitational in 2015. Salve Regina (59) took second, followed by third place Colby Sawyer (105), fourth place Endicott (162) and host Roger Williams (164) in fifth place. 

Wellesley senior Edie Sharon (Winchester, Mass.) took fourth with a time of 19:27.51, while classmate Sara Vannah (Amherst, Mass.) finished just seconds behind in 19:30.60 to take fifth. The trio of Wellesley seniors was joined in the top-ten by first year Eva Paradiso (Burlington, Vt.). Paradiso ran to a time of 19:46.14 to take seventh in her collegiate debut. Blue junior Taylor Fortnam (Portola Valley, Calif.) was the final scoring runner for the Blue. She finished in 20th with a time of 20:59.71.

Senior Alice Zhou (Sunnyvale, Calif.), first year Elizabeth Lambert (Kensington, Md.), sophomore Catherine Xie (Newton, Mass.) and first year Sophie Dolan (Austin, Texas) completed the team of nine Blue runners in the field on Saturday. Zhou was 23rd overall (21:06.15), while Lambert took 42nd (22:13.02), Xie finished 47th (22:38.55) and Dolan was 65th (23.20.98).

Wellesley cross country continues the season in two weeks at the Bates Invitational at Pineland Farms in New Gloucester, Maine. The women's race is scheduled to begin at 11:00 AM.
