Blue Cross Country Runs to 4th at Minnesota's Griak Invitational

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. -- Wellesley College cross country finished fourth overall at the University of Minnesota's annual Roy Griak Invitational on Saturday afternoon at Les Bolstad Golf Course. Wellesley finished with 101 points in the women's Division III 6K race.

Sophomore Grace Cowles (Yarmouth, Maine), first year Maya Bradbury (Freeport, Maine), and junior Taylor Mahlandt (Ephrata, Pa.) all finished in the top-20 to lead the Blue. Cowles had the top time for Wellesley with a ninth place finish at 23:52.8. Bradbury finished 12th with a time of 23:55.2 and Mahlandt grabbed the 18th spot, crossing the finish line at 24:13.8.

Sophomore Samara Shaz (New York, N.Y.) and junior Keiko Hilmo (Saint Paul, Minn.) closed out the Blue team score, clocking in with times of 24:33.8 and 24:45.9, respectively. Shaz finished in 30th and Hilmo was 34th.

Sophomores Ava Shipman (Makawao, Hawaii) and April Chu (Fremont, Calif.) finished in the 43rd and 45th spots. Shipman recorded a time of 24:59.3 and Chu finished at 25:02.4. Junior Elizabeth Wegman (East Sandwich, Mass.) finished 69th at 25:50.6. Junior Sophie Dolan (Austin, Texas), and first years Natalie Li (Charlottesville, Va.) and Jenna Ocheltree (Libertyville, Ill.) finished 74th, 75th, and 76th, recording times of 25:55.6, 25:55.8, and 25:56.0.

Also in action for the Blue: sophomore Hannah Russo (Summit, N.J.) finished 105th (27:15.2), senior Catherine Xie (Newton, Mass.) was 117th (27:41.5), sophomore Veda Donthireddy (Princeton Junction, N.J.) was 121st (27:48.6), sophomore Carolyn Price (Koloa, Hawaii) was 122nd (27:49.7), and first year Kaylee Hill (Hingham, Mass.) finished 140th overall (28:56.8) in the 11-team field.

Wellesley will race again on Sunday, October 14th at the Seven Sisters Championships at Bryn Mawr College.
