Blue Cross Country Places 12th at NCAA DIII New England Championships

BRUNSWICK, Maine -- Junior Grace Cowles (Yarmouth, Maine) finished 39th overall to lead Wellesley College cross country to a 12th place finish at the 2019 NCAA Division III New England Regional Championships on Saturday afternoon at Bowdoin College. 

Cowles completed the 6k course with a time of 22:36.9, finishing just shy of All-Region honors to help the Blue to their second consecutive 12th place finish at the Regional meet. The Blue totalled 365 points in the team standings, finishing six points ahead of 13th place Coast Guard. Williams (64) and MIT (84) took first and second place, earning automatic bids to the NCAA National Championship meet. 

Senior Keiko Hilmo (Saint Paul, Minn.) was second among Wellesley's runners taking 60th place with a time of 22:54.7 for a new PR. Four of Wellesley's scoring runners finished in the top 100, as junior April Chu (Fremont, Calif.) added a new PR time of 23:05.9 to take 73rd place and sophomore Maya Bradbury (Freeport, Maine) took 90th place for a new PR of 23:14.1. 

Senior Eva Paradiso (Burlington, Vt.) topped off the team scoring for the Blue with a 103rd place finish in 23:29.5. Junior Samara Shaz (New York, N.Y.) finished 111th (23:42.5) and senior Elizabeth Wegman (East Sandwich, Mass.) took 113th with a PR of 23:44.5. 

Saturday's race concludes the 2019 season for Wellesley cross country.
