WELLESLEY, Mass. -- #10 Wellesley College topped #18 Mount Holyoke College, 2-1, in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) field hockey action on Saturday afternoon at Wellesley. The game was a rematch of last year's NEWMAC title game, which also ended in the Blue's favor.

The win keeps Wellesley unbeaten, moving the Blue to 9-0 on the season, 2-0 in NEWMAC play. The Lyons dip to 6-2 (0-1 in the NEWMAC) with the loss, with both of their defeats coming at the hands of nationally-ranked opponents.

Wellesley posted a 16-6 advantage in shots, including a 5-0 edge in the first half. The Blue also doubled the Lyons on corner attempts, 8-4.

The Blue controlled possession in the first half, but needed nearly the full 35 minutes to get on the board. Wellesley drew a pair of penalty corners in the final six minutes of the half, but the MHC defense kept the game scoreless. The Blue finally broke through with 29 seconds on clock, as junior Anissa Sridhar sent home a rebound from Hannah Flesch, putting Wellesley up 1-0.

Wellesley had the first action of the second half before Mount Holyoke put together an offensive surge, drawing two corners and taking three shots in a seven minute span. During the run, the Lyons had a pair of shots saved by Wellesley's Lucy Hurlock in the 46th minute, before a bullet off the stick Kirsten Kilburn was smothered by the Blue's Dana Marks

Wellesley regained the possession edge follow the Lyons surge, and pushed the lead to 2-0 in the 58th minute. An initial shot from Flesh was saved by Dicesare, but Sridhar collected the rebound and found the back of the cage for her second goal of the game.

The Blue rattled off three corners and three more shots and looked to be headed for the shut out victory, before a final minute goal from the Lyons cut the lead to 2-1. Mount Holyoke's Sophie Perekslis found the back of the cage in the 70th minute, corralling a feed from Kilburn for the score.

Wellesley then controlled possession for the final 25 seconds of play to seal the victory.

Hurlock earned her ninth victory of the season in goal for the Blue, making a pair of stops. Mount Holyoke's Dicesare made nine saves in a solid, but losing effort.
