Wellesley Field Hockey Falls to No. 6 Bowdoin, 6-0

BRUNSWICK, Maine -- Wellesley College field hockey dropped a 6-0 setback in non-conference action against No.6 Bowdoin College on Thursday evening at Ryan Field. Wellesley is now 3-5 on their season, while Bowdoin improves to 7-1 overall.

Junior Tala Glass (Glencoe, Ill.) and classmate Kara Finnerty (Hopkinton, Mass.) led Bowdoin with two goals and one assist each. Junior Emma Stevens (Darien, Conn.) and first year Manveer Sandhu (Mount Kisco, N.Y.) both scored one goal apiece in the victory to round out scoring for the Polar Bears.

Glass and Finnerty combined for four goals in the first half for Bowdoin. Sandhu scored her second goal of the season in the first half for the Polar Bears as they held a 5-0 lead heading into the halftime break. Stevens scored her 12th goal of the season in the second half at 42:47 to secure the 6-0 victory over the Blue. Bowdoin outshot Wellesley, 28-4, and held a 9-3 advantage in penalty corners.

Wellesley senior goalkeeper Maggie Connelly (Duxbury, Mass.) recorded nine saves in her 22:34 minutes of play, while sophomore Janelle Sullivan (Philadelphia, Pa.) made a career-high 10 saves in her 47:26 minutes of relief. Bowdoin sophomore goalkeeper Eva Verzani (Maplewood, N.J.) had one save to earn the win for the Polar Bears.

Wellesley will return to New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) action on Saturday, September 29 at 11:00 AM at home against Clark University. Bowdoin will play again on Wednesday, October 3 at 6:00 PM when they host University of Maine- Farmington.
