WELLESLEY, Mass.-- Senior Haley Chrobock (Branchville, N.J.) scored the game-winning goal for Wellesley College field hockey in overtime to lift the Blue to a 2-1 New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) victory over Clark University on Saturday afternoon at the Wellesley Fields Complex.

Wellesley earned their first conference win of the season to improve to 1-2 in the NEWMAC and 4-5 overall. Clark drops to 0-3 in conference play and 6-4 on the season.

Clark took a quick 1-0 lead just 49 seconds into the game when senior Olivia Barksdale (Fort Washington, Md.) carried the ball from the end line and shot it right in front of the cage to score her 13th goal of the season. Wellesley tied it at 12:19 when sophomore Maggie King (Philadelphia, Pa.) sent the ball over to first year Julia Rappaport (Bala Cynwyd, Pa.) to score her third goal of the season.

Wellesley had 12 shots in the second half but the game would have to be decided in overtime. Chrobock scored the overtime game-winner at 72:51 off her own rebound to give Wellesley the 2-1 victory. The Blue outshot the Cougars, 19-4, and held the advantage in penalty corners, 10-1. Wellesley also had a big defensive save from sophomore Sarah Timmons (Madison, N.J.) off a shot from sophomore Cheyanne Zappala (Laconia, N.H.) in the 38th minute.

Wellesley sophomore Janelle Sullivan (Philadelphia, Pa.) recorded her first win of the season and is now 1-0. Clark senior Dani Michaud (Providence, R.I.) made seven saves in the setback and is 4-2 on the season.

Both teams continue NEWMAC play on Tuesday, October 3 at 7:00 PM. Clark will travel to WPI and Wellesley will play at Babson.
