BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- Sophomore Julia Rappaport (Bala Cynwyd, Pa.) scored her first career hat trick to lead Wellesley College field hockey to 10-0 victory over Bridgewater State University in non-conference action on Wednesday evening at Swenson Field.

Wellesley snaps a two-game skid with the victory, improving to 2-2 overall and 1-1 away from Butler Stadium. The ten goal output from the Blue was the most for the program since a 10-0 victory over New England College at the start of the 2014 season. Bridgewater State is now 0-3 on the year.

Junior Danielle Brubaker (Princeton Junction, N.J.) and sophomore Maddie Bettencourt (Virginia Beach, Va.) each added a pair of goals, while senior Hannah Maisano (Gambrills, Md. ), junior Carson Dennis (Grosse Pointe Farms, Mich.), and junior Maggie King (Philadelphia, Pa.) also scored for the Blue. Maisano, who also added an assist in the contest, now has goals in the three of her first four games to start the season and leads the Blue with five points on the year.

The Blue got off to a hot start, scoring the first goal off the stick of Bettencourt after only 2:31 of play. Shortly after, Maisano knocked in another goal off a pass from Dennis during a penalty corner. King added one more goal, assisted by junior Mitzi Wiggin (North Hampton, N.H.), to make the score 3-0 Blue at the end of the first period. Bettencourt and Dennis added on in the second period to send the Blue to the break with a 5-0 halftime lead.

Wellesley continued to push at the start of the third period when Bettencourt set up Rappaport to make the score 6-0 at 32:21. Rappaport followed with two more goals, at 40:42 and 43:58, recording a natural hat trick during the third quarter to send the Blue to the fourth with an 8-0 advantage. Rappaport's second goal was assisted by sophomore Caitlin Campbell (San Diego, Calif.) and her third by Maisano. In the fourth period, a pair of unassisted markers off the stick of Brubaker sealed the 10-0 win.

The Blue finished the game with an overwhealing 42-5 advantage in shots. Junior Janelle Sullivan (Philadelphia, Pa.) played the first half to earn the victory (2-2). Blue first year Eleanor Rothera (Lusby, Md.) made two saves in the second half in her collegiate debut. Bridgewater State first year Deirdre Duarte (Fall River, Mass.) turned back nine shots to lead the Bears in the cage, while starter Jillian Delaney (Foxborough, Mass.) made two saves on five shots in the opening quarter and was tagged with the loss (0-2).

The Blue return home for the dedication of Butler Stadium and to host University of Maine at Farmington at 12:30 pm on Saturday, September 14. Bridgewater hits the road to play at Castleton University at 4:00 pm on Saturday.
