WELLESLEY, Mass. - Wellesley College field hockey was defeated 4-0 by MIT in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) play on Saturday at Butler Stadium.
The game was part of a series of Wellesley games supporting Athlete Ally, an organization that commits to ending homophobia and transphobia in sports by empowering athletes and organizations to use their leadership in championing LGBTQI+ equality.
First year Bailey McIntyre (Concord, Mass.) scored a goal and had an assist while senior Paige Forrester (Glencoe, Ill.) scored her NEWMAC leading 15th season goal and had two assists for the Engineers (11-3 Overall, 5-1 NEWMAC). Junior Kyra Deehr-Lewis (Newtown, Pa.) saved eight shots for the Blue (6-8 Overall, 2-3 NEWMAC) while junior Alex Lenart (Princeton Junction, N.J.) had a pair of shots on goal.
After a scoreless first quarter, Forrester maneuvered past Deehr-Lewis and flicked a shot into the open cage to get the Engineers on the board.
Midway through the third, McIntyre took advantage of a scramble to put away a ball in the right corner giving the Engineers a 2-0 lead. Forester assisted on the play.
Senior Erica Radler (Wayne, N.J.) scored two minutes later, dribbling past her defender a firing a shot into the left corner for a 3-0 MIT lead. McIntyre assisted on the play.
First year Marisa Montione scored her second goal of the season for MIT in the fourth on a ball assisted by Forester, giving MIT their final 4-0 tally.
The Blue travel across town for a 6:00 PM NEWMAC showdown with Babson on Tuesday night. MIT will host Wheaton at 6:00 PM Tuesday for a NEWMAC game of their own.
