Six Named Named to NEWMAC 25th Year All-Field Hockey Team

WELLESLEY, Mass. - The New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) announced their 25-Year All-NEWMAC Field Hockey Team on Thursday. Among the selections were former Wellesley student-athletes Leslie Bagay (1997-2001), Marret Arfsten (1999-2003), Betsy Masiello (1999-2003), Laura Bender (2000-2004), Nathalie Gruet (2011-2015), and Anissa Sridhar (2012-2016).

Leslie Bagay was a National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) National All-American First Team member in 1998 and Second Team member in 1999. Bagay was also a three-time NFHCA All-Region First Team member, a four-time NEWMAC All-Conference First Team member, a NFHCA North-South Senior All-Star in 2000, and was part of Wellesley field hockey teams that won the NEWMAC tournament in 1997 and 1998.

Marret Arfsten is a member of the Wellesley College Athletics Hall of Fame, inducted in 2018. Arfsten was a NFHCA National All-American First Team member in 2002 and Third Team member in 2001. Additionally, Arfsten was a three-time NFHCA All-Region First Team member, a three-time NEWMAC All-Conference First Team member, the NEWMAC Player of the Year in 2002, and was a  NFHCA North-South Senior All-Star in 2002. Arfsten was a part of a 2002 Wellesley field hockey team that won the NEWMAC tournament and made the second round of the NCAA Division III Field Hockey Tournament. 

Betsy Masiello was a NFHCA National All-American First Team member in 2002, Second Team member in 2001, and Third Team member in 1999 and 2000. Masiello was also a four-time NFHCA All-Region First Team member, a four-time NEWMAC All-Conference First Team member, and was a  NFHCA North-South Senior All-Star in 2002. Masiello was a part of a 2002 Wellesley field hockey team that won the NEWMAC tournament and made the second round of the NCAA tournament.

Laura Bender was a NFHCA National All-American Second Team member in 2003. Bender was also a three-time NFHCA All-Region First Team member, and a three-time NEWMAC All-Conference First Team member. Bender was a part of a 2002 Wellesley field hockey team that won the NEWMAC tournament and made the second round of the NCAA tournament.

Nathalie Gruet was a NFHCA National All-American First Team member in 2013 and 2014. Gruet was also a three-time NFHCA All-Region First Team member, a four-time NEWMAC All-Conference First Team member, the NEWMAC Rookie of the Year in 2011, the NEWMAC Player of the Year in 2013 and 2014, and was a NFHCA North-South Senior All-Star in 2014. Gruet was a part of the 2013 and 2014 Wellesley field hockey teams that won the NEWMAC tournament and made the quarterfinals of the 2013 NCAA Division III Field Hockey Tournament.

Anissa Sridhar was a NFHCA National All-American Third Team member in 2014 and 2015. Sridhar was also a two-time NFHCA All-Region First Team member, a two-time NEWMAC All-Conference First Team member, and a NFHCA North-South Senior All-Star in 2015. Sridhar was a part of Wellesley field hockey teams that won the NEWMAC tournament in 2013, 2014, and the NEWMAC regular season in 2015, and made the quarterfinals of the 2013 NCAA Division III Field Hockey Tournament.

The NEWMAC 25-Year All-NEWMAC Teams are a celebration of the 25th anniversary of the NEWMAC athletic conference. The NEWMAC was formed in 1998, when the former New England Women's 8 Conference (NEW 8) voted to begin sponsoring conference play and championships for men.
