No. 6 Wellelsey to Travel to No. 3 WPI in Quarterfinals of NEWMAC Field Hockey Championship

2022 NEWMAC Field Hockey Championship Bracket

WESTWOOD, Mass. - With the conclusion of the last game of the regular season this afternoon, the NEWMAC has released the 2022 Field Hockey Championship bracket, which consists of six teams vying for a the NEWMAC trophy. 

The Blue travel to WPI for a matchup with the Engineers starting at 7:00 PM. WPI blanked Wellesley 4-0 earlier this season in a game that saw first year Abby Powers (Halifax, Mass.) score a pair of goals for the Engineeers in their win.

After a perfect 8-0 conference record, Babson (8-0) secured the top seed for the second straight season. MIT (7-1) earned the No. 2 seed and the right to host a semifinal game with a first round bye, as WPI (6-2) rounded out the top three as the No. 3 seed and quarterfinal hosting rights. Finishing at 5-3 Springfield claimed the No. 4 seed and will host a quarterfinal game and are followed by No. 5 Smith (4-4) and No. 6 Wellesley (3-5) to close out the bracket with the remaining slot.

In the opening round, WPI will host Wellesley with the winner taking on MIT in the semifinal round. On Tuesday, Springfield plays host to Smith where the winner will play into top seeded Babson on Thursday, November 3rd in semifinal action.

On Saturday, November 5th, the winners of each semifinal will compete in the NEWMAC title game at the highest remaining seed.

Quarterfinals: Tuesday, November 1st (at highest seeds)

No. 6 Wellesley at No. 3 WPI - 7:00 p.m.

No. 5 Smith at No. 4 Springfield - 6:00 p.m.

Semifinals: Thursday, November 3rd (at highest remaining seeds)

Winner No. 4/5 at No. 1 Babson 

Winner No.3/No. 6 vs. No. 2 MIT

Championship: Saturday, November 5th (at highest remaining seed)
