WORCESTER, Mass. - A pair of third quarter goals helped No. 3 WPI defeat No. 6 Wellesley College field hockey 2-0 in the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Quarterfinals on Tuesday at H. Carr Field at Alumni Stadium.

Junior Abigail Rauch (Jackson, N.J.) scored her 10th career goal for the Engineers (12-7 Overall, 6-2 NEWMAC) and graduate student Lauren Dishong (Milford, N.H.) also scored her 11th season goal for WPI. The Engineers outshot the Blue (7-11 overall, 3-5 NEWMAC) 11-4.

The Blue defense kept WPI at bay in the first half, with neither team able to get on the scoreboard. Junior Kyra Deehr-Lewis (Newtown, Pa.) stopped both shots the Engineers put on goal, maintaining a 0-0 tie throughout the half.

In the third quarter WPI capitalized on a penalty corner when Rauch tipped in a shot set up by junior Lauren Meinhold (Boxboro, Mass.).

Late in the third Dishong doubled up the Engineers' lead when a deflected ball was tapped by first year Arie Lang (West Hartford, Conn.) and then knocked in by Dishong. Lang picked up her fourth assist of the season.

The Engineers will face off against MIT in Cambridge on Thursday for a NEWMAC Semifinals matchup at 6:00 PM.
