WELLESLEY, Mass. -- MIT earned an 8-2 win over Wellesley College in game one, before game two was halted with the score tied 1-1 in the ninth inning, in a New England Women's & Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) softball doubleheader on Friday afternoon at the Wellesley Fields Complex.
The Blue are now 7-12-1 on the season and 3-7 in NEWMAC games. MIT has now won 10 straight NEWMAC games to improve to 16-5 overall and 10-1 in conference.

Junior Michelle Wist (Cypress, Texas) finished 4-for-4 with a home run, triple and two doubles to lead the Engineers to an 8-2 victory in game one.
Wist scored three runs and drove in a pair, including her sixth inning blast over the right field wall. Classmate Madi Pickett (Santa Barbara, Calif.) added two doubles and two RBI, while first year Kassidy Peterson (Whitehouse Station, N.J.) was 2-for-3 with a run scored and an RBI.
Sophomore Gen Brittingham (Aliso Viejo, Calif.) led the way for Wellesley, finishing with three hits and a run scored. Junior Autumn Brown (Marshfield, Mass.) and first year Hayley Moniz (Westfield, Mass.) each had an RBI, driving in runs as part of a two-run fourth inning for the Blue.
MIT took control of the game with a four-run top of the second, scoring four runs on four hits and a Wellesley error. Wist doubled to leadoff the top of the third, scoring on an RBI double from Pickett to increase the Engineer advantage to 5-0. The Engineers would jump ahead 7-0 in the fourth on the strength of an RBI single from junior Sarah Von Ahn (West Linn, Ore.) and an RBI double from Wist. The Blue got two back in the bottom of the fourth but Wist's homer in the sixth sealed the 8-2 score line.
Senior Ravenne Nasser (Methuen, Mass.) went the distance in the circle for MIT, striking out six, while giving up two runs (one earned) and five hits, to improve to 9-3 overall. Wellesley senior Sydney Hopper (Newcastle, Wash.) took the loss (4-6), giving up three runs (two earned) in one inning of action.

Both teams manufactured runs in the first inning. MIT junior Devon Goetz (Rockville, Md.) doubled to lead off the game before scoring on an Anya Chase (Wells, Maine) RBI ground out. Wellesley first year Marisa Hensch (Carlsbad, Calif.) lifted a sacrifice to right to score junior Kendall Smith (Turlock, Calif.) and tie the game, 1-1.
The game moved to extras with the score still tied. The Blue cut down the go-ahead run in the top of the eighth, when Hensch threw out Goetz at home plate. MIT starter Colleen Campbell (Snoqualmie, Wash.) then set the Blue down in order to send the game to the ninth.
The Blue and the Engineers will continue NEWMAC play on Saturday, April 13. Wellesley will travel to Coast Guard for a 1:00 PM doubleheader. MIT will play two at Springfield at 12:00 PM.
