Wellesley Softball Earns 2019 Easton/NFCA All-America Scholar-Athlete Honors

LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- The National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) has named over 8,000 student-athletes (8,161), including seven from the Wellesley College softball team, 2019 Easton/NFCA All-America Scholar-Athletes. The Blue were also recognized with the 2018-19 Easton/NFCA Team GPA Award with a cumulative team GPA of 3.41.

The rankings and honors recognize the academic prowess of softball teams across the NFCA's membership categories. NCAA Division III led the way with 1,928 student-athletes earning a 3.5 grade-point average or higher for 2018-19. The following Blue student-athletes were named Easton/NFCA All-American Scholar-Athletes for the 2019 season (left to right in the photo):

  • Autumn Brown '20 (Marshfield, Mass.)
  • Lucy Cheskin '21 (Mountain View, Calif.)
  • Holly Chin '22 (Newton, Mass.)
  • Sydney Hopper '19 (Newcastle, Wash.)
  • Tatum Kawabata '21 (Kirkland, Wash.)
  • Jillian O'Shea '22 (Moseley, Va.)
  • Kalei Oliver '20 (Vista, Calif.)

Wellesley softball finished the 2019 season with a 13-17-2 overall record, advancing to the third day of the 2019 New England Women's & Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) tournament before falling to eventual champion WPI.

Established in 1983, the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) is the professional growth organization for fastpitch softball coaches from all competitive levels of play. Although collegiate coaches comprised the majority of the organization's membership in the early days, today they are joined by high school, travel ball, professional and international coaches, along with umpires, clubs, businesses and fans of fastpitch softball.
