CLERMONT, Fla. – Blue softball fell 7-3 to Colby and 8-0 (five innings) to Hope on the team's third day of the spring break games from Clermont, Florida.

Game 1 | Wellesley 3, Colby 7 | Final

Sophomore Aniko Alexander (Gaithersburg, Md.) put the Blue on the board first with a line-drive single up the middle to bring home Marisa Sgambatti (Scottsdale, Ariz.) in the bottom of the second. The bats stayed hot the following inning with Hayley Moniz (Westfield, Mass.) and Alexander each recording RBI singles, as Wellesley took a 3-0 lead after three innings of play.

Sgambatti made the start for the Blue and dealt a scoreless first four innings. The bats for the Mules woke up in the fifth after Chole Wilcox (Windham, Maine) drove home a run with a double to right center. Luebbe followed up with another single and an obstruction call on the throw home gave Colby a second run in the inning. The Mules continued to put the ball in play and tied the game at 3-3 off an error by the Blue shortstop Ingrid Hsu (San Ramon, Calif.) in the sixth. Luebbe then sent a grand slam over the left field wall in what proved to be the game winning blast.

Sophomore Abby Orso (York Harbor, Maine) came in relief for the Mules and went four scoreless innings to earn the win. Sgambatti finished with four earned runs in 5.1 innings pitched and struck out four.

Game 2 | Wellesley 0, Hope 8 | Final (Five innings)

Senior pitcher Chloe Haskins (Brighton, Mich.) dealt five scoreless and hitless innings in a 8-0 win over the Blue.

Hope jumped out of the gate and put up a pair of runs in the first inning. With runners on first and third, Kaelin Callow (Plainfield, Ill.) stole second and Grace Henry (Hudsonville, Mich.) came home on the throw. Sophomore Vanessa Krombeen (Grand Rapids, Mich.) then laced a double to bring home a run. Hope extended its lead to 4-0 after Henry hit a home run to left field in the third. The Blue went down in order to follow and the Flying Dutch poured on four more to lead 8-0. First year Lauren Young (Fresno, Calif.) was able to reach base with the Blue needing a run to advance the game after getting hit by a pitch. Classmate Lauren Skolaris (Mooresville, N.C.) followed with a sacrifice bunt to move Young into scoring position. Hannah Cain (McKinney, Texas) had a chance to bring home a run but popped out to third and the Blue fell 8-0 after five.

Wellesley returns on Wednesday after a day off to take on Old Westbury at 2:00 PM and Williams at 4:00 PM from the Legends Way Ballparks in Clermont.
