Sgambati kept the Bear bats at bay the following three innings, allowing just one hit over the span. Coast Guard found its groove in the seventh and extended its lead to 10-1 with six runs and six hits. The Blue were able to bring home three more in the bottom half as Sgambati cleared the bases with a double to left center, but the charge came too late as the Bears held on 10-4 in game one.

Carey and Montalvo each had RBI singles in the fifth and Farlow blasted a solo home run the following inning as Coast Guard led 4-1. After tacking on two more insurance runs in the seventh, the Blue was down to its final chance. Alexander led off by reaching on an error by the Bears shortstop.
