Blue Softball Places Four on 25 Year All-NEWMAC Team

The NEWMAC released the Softball 25 Year All-NEWMAC Team in recognition of the historic 25th Anniversary season. A total of 30 student-athletes have been recognized from the last 25 years, including former Wellesley College softball student-athletes Jenna Harvey '08, Megan Wood '10, Lauren Goldfarb '13, and Carly Bresee '16. The honored team was voted on by the NEWMAC membership.

Wellesley Softball Lands 12 on Easton/NFCA All-America Scholar-Athlete Team

The National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) announced the Easton/NFCA All-America Scholar-Athlete honors for the 2022-23 academic year this Tuesday. A total of 8,297 student-athletes received the honor, including 12 members of the Wellesley College softball team.

On Thursday, the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) released its 2023 Spring All-Sportsmanship Team. Seniors Gaya Krishna (Houston, Texas), Claire Anderson (Denver, Colo.), juniors Elli DeCleene (North Reading, Mass.), Melinda Alviar (Indianapolis, Ind.) and first year Chloe Guntrip (Irvine, Calif.) represented the Blue on the All-Sportsmanship Team.

The New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) revealed the 2023 Softball Academic All-Conference Team on Wednesday with nine members of Wellesley College softball recognized.Honorees must have met the following criteria: earned a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.5/4.0 scale or 4.35/5.0 scale after the 2022 fall semester, achieved second year academic status at their institution, and been a member of the varsity team for the entire season.

On Tuesday, Wellesley College softball senior Ingrid Hsu (San Ramon, Calif.) and sophomore Lauren Young (Fresno, Calif.) were named to the College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District Team.  The award is given to athletes who in addition to being impactful on their respective team, have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.50, and have achieved second year status at their academic institution. Hsu batted .308 on the season for the Blue with 28 hits, including a pair of triples and scored a team-leading 14 runs. Young earned five wins in the circle for Wellesley while striking out 42 batters over 81 innings in addition to batting .269 with five doubles and a triple this season.

Blue Softball's Young Claims NEWMAC Pitcher of the Week Honors

Sophomore Lauren Young (Fresno, Calif.) of Wellesley College softball was named the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Pitcher of the Week for the week ending April 30, 2023 following two complete game pitching performances this past week. Last Friday against Emerson, Young threw seven innings allowing just one run while striking out three. On Saturday versus WPI, Young was in top form. The sophomore took the circle and tossed a complete game shutout over the Engineers, earning the win with four strikeouts while only allowing five hits across seven innings.

Blue Softball Splits with WPI to Finish Season

Sophomore Lauren Young (Fresno, Calif.) helped guide Wellesley College softball to a game one win as the Blue split a pair of New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) games with WPI in the regular season finale on Saturday at Rooftop Fields Complex. Young pitched a complete game shutout in game one for the Blue (9-22-1 Overall, 5-11 NEWMAC), striking out four while only allowing five hits over seven innings of work.

Emerson Earns Two Wins Against Wellesley Softball

Emerson earned a pair of New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) wins over Wellesley College softball on Friday. Junior Makenzie Killough (Attleboro, Mass.) had four RBIs including a three-run triple for the Lions (18-18 Overall, 6-12 NEWMAC) in game one while sophomore Jessica Gomez (West Chester, Pa.) pitched a complete game shutout in game two. First year Andrea Delgado (Miami, Fla.) scored a pair of runs for the Blue (8-21-1 Overall, 4-10 NEWMAC) and classmate Emeline Gaunce (Los Altos, Calif.) had four hits over the two games.

Coast Guard Picks Up Two Wins over Wellesley Softball

April 22, 2023

Wellesley College softball dropped both games of a New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) doubleheader on Saturday at the U.S. Coast Guard Academy. The Bears defeated the Blue, 10-5 in game one and 8-0 in game two. Junior Lillia Farlow (Carrollton, Texas) had five RBIs and a home run for the Bears (24-8 Overall, 10-4 NEWMAC) while first year Maura Murphy (Bristow, Va.) cracked a home run in the second game. The Blue (8-19-1 Overall, 4-8 NEWMAC) were led by first year Maggie Abernethy (Phoenix, Ariz.) with a pair of RBIs in the first game.

Strong Pitching Leads Blue Softball to Two Wins Over Babson

Backed by superb pitching from sophomore Lauren Young (Fresno, Calif.) and senior Marisa Sgambati (Scottsdale, Ariz.), Wellesley College softball won both halves of their New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) doubleheader over Babson on Friday afternoon. Sgambati and Young each tossed a complete game for the Blue (8-17-1 Overall, 4-6 NEWMAC), with Sgambati not allowing a single run to score.

Blue Softball Sweeps Dean in Non-Conference Doubleheader

First year Chiara Lundin (Piedmont, Calif.) hit a walkoff double in game one and junior Aniko Alexander (Gaithersburg, Md.) homered in game two to lift Wellesley College softball to a doubleheader sweep of Dean College in non-conference play on Wednesday afternoon.

Blue Softball Wins Two over Clark

April 15, 2023

Wellesley College softball won a pair of New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) games over Clark at O’Brien Softball Field on Saturday.  Sophomore Lauren Young (Fresno, Calif.) starred both at the plate and in the circle for the Blue (4-17-1 Overall, 2-6 NEWMAC). After throwing a complete game for the win in game one, before hitting two doubles with an RBI in game two.

Wheaton Rallies to take Two Games from Wellesley Softball

Wheaton utilized offense in the later innings to win both New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) games against Wellesley College softball on Friday at Clark Field. First year Lily Platt (Hallowell, Maine) drove in three runs on three hits over two games for the Lyons (16-8 Overall, 6-2 NEWMAC). First year Chiara Lundin (Piedmont, Calif.) had three hits, two RBIs, and scored a run in game one for the Blue (2-17-1 Overall, 0-6 NEWMAC) while classmate Emeline Gaunce (Los Altos, Calif.) had three hits in game two.

Blue Softball Drops Pair of Games to Brandeis

April 12, 2023

Wellesley College softball dropped two non-conference games to Brandeis on a warm April Wednesday, including a tightly contested extra innings affair in game one. Junior Alex Cohen (West Palm Beach, Fla.) had four RBIs and pitched six innings of two in game two for the Judges (14-9). Sophomore Charis Chung (San Gabriel, Calif.) scored a pair of runs for the Blue (2-15-1).

Wellesley Softball Falls to Springfield

Springfield won two New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) games over Wellesley College softball on Saturday. First year Amelia DeRosa (Miller Place, N.Y.) had the big bat for the Pride (21-3 Overall, 6-0 NEWMAC) with six hits and three RBIs on the day. First year Chiara Lundin (Piedmont, Calif.) had three RBIs for the Blue (2-13-1 Overall, 0-4 NEWMAC) while classmate Andrea Delgado (Miami, Fla.) had six hits on the day.
