Celebrate National Girls & Women in Sports Day with Wellesley Basketball

WELLESLEY, Mass. -- Local youth sports teams are invited to join Wellesley College Athletics and the Blue basketball team in celebration of the 32nd Annual National Girls & Women in Sports Day when Wellesley hosts Wheaton College on Wednesday, February 7, 2018 at 7:00 PM at Dorothy Towne Fieldhouse.

Admission for the game is free. Local youth teams and members of the Wellesley College community are invited to share in the celebration and enjoy free Ben & Jerry's Ice Cream! Youth teams/organization interested in attending should email Marni Friedman, Associate Director for Facilities & Operations, at mfriedm8@wellesley.edu to register for the event.

The basketball game will include a halftime ceremony recognizing the accomplishments of Wellesley's Seven Sisters and New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) champions and NCAA championship participants from the past year. Last year's celebration saw Wellesley's largest crowd of the season cheer on the Blue basketball team against Babson. This year's game between Wellesley and Wheaton will be one of more than 1,000 events taking place across the country for National Girls and Women in Sports Day.

Congress has proclaimed National Girls and Women in Sports Day each year since 1987 to recognize the progress of girls and women in sports, and the benefits that sports and fitness activities can bring to the lives of all girls and women. The day is organized nationally by the NGWSD Coalition; to learn more, visit www.NGWSD.org

Wellesley Athletics strives for excellence at the conference, regional, and national levels, while providing opportunities for students to achieve their potential and learn the values of discipline, leadership, critical thinking, and responsibility to oneself and others.
