Wellesley Crew Competes at New England Championships

WORCESTER, Mass. -- All three of Wellesley's entries advanced to the grand finals in the 2014 New England Rowing Championships on Saturday. The event was being hosted in Worcester on Lake Quinsigamond.

Wellesley's varsity eight boat won it's opening heat, recording a time of 7:22.669, outpacing Wesleyan, UNH, WPI and Coast Guard. In the grand finals, the Blue came in fourth place in a tight race, as Trinity (6:58.20) took the title, followed by Bates (7:00.255), Williams (7:03.738) and Wellesley (7:03.834). Middlebury (7:12.762)  and Wesleyan (7:15.465) rounded out the field.

In second varsity action, Wellesley ranked third in the opening heat, falling to only Bates and Williams, but topping WPI, Tufts, and Mount Holyoke. In the finals, the Blue finished fifth overall (7:29.044), behind Bates (7:02.537), Trinity (7:11.232), Wesleyan (7:19.619), and Williams (7:24.358), but ahead of Middlebury (7:37.997).

The Blue's novice boat also advanced to the grand finals, after taking third in the opening heat behind Trinity and Mount Holyoke, and ahead of Tufts, Middlebury and Bryant. Wellesley then ranked sixth in the grand final with a time of 8:23.891. 

Blue crew is back in action next week again at Lake Quinsigamond. This time, Wellesley will take part in the ECAC Championships.
