Blue Crew Opens Season at Head of the Housatonic

DERBY, Conn. -- Wellesley College crew returned to the water on Saturday, opening the 2021-22 season at the annual Head of the Housatonic on the Housatonic River.

Blue crew competed in three events, highlighted by 11th and 14th place finishes in the Division I Collegiate Women's 8+. Wellesley was the only Division III team in the field in the DI Collegiate Eights, with the Varsity 8+, stroked by junior Anneka Hallstrom (Ann Arbor, Mich.) earning a time of 16:10.2 (11th) and the 2nd Varsity 8+, with stroke Adeline Van Buskirk (Hingham, Mass.) taking 14th in 16:32.8.

In the Non-Division I Collegiate Eights, the Blue captured sixth and ninth place. Sophomore Marley DeSimone (Framingham, Mass.) stroked the Novice 8+ to sixth with a time of 19:32.6, while classmate Giulia Trevellin (Santa Monica, Calif.) was the stroke for the 2nd Novice 8+ crew that finished with a time of 21:19.2.

The Blue closed out the day in the Collegiate Women's 4+. Junior Macy Lipkin (Framingham, Mass.) was the stroke for the Varsity 4+ crew that earned a 10th place finish in 19:23.7. The 2nd Varsity 4+ did not compete on Saturday.

Wellesley will now turn its focus to Sunday, October 24 and The Head Of The Charles Regatta on the Charles River in Boston. The Women's Collegiate Eights event is scheduled to begin at 2:39 PM. For more information, please visit hocr.org.
