No. 1 Crew Earns First in 2V8+ and Second in V8+ on Saturday

MEDFORD, Mass. – The No. 1 Wellesley College crew earned a second place finish in the Varsity Eight (V8+) and a first place victory in the Second Varsity Eight (2V8+) on Saturday morning.

The V8+ began the day with a victory in the semifinals over tournament host Tufts (6:52.86) with a time of 6:49.54 and would meet No. 2 Bates in the finals. In the matchup of one versus two, Bates came away with the close victory in 6:44.72 and the Blue were just behind, finishing the race in 6:47.60.

In the semifinal race between Wellesley and Tufts in the 2V8+, the Blue cruised to a victory by over 13 seconds and had a time of 7:04.09. The 2V8+ group would get revenge over Bates and completed the race in 7:02.38 to earn the win. Bates, who;s 2V8+ group hadn't lost a race in four year, finished in second at 7:10.13.

The 3V8+ crew fell to Tufts in the opening round after putting together a race of 7:22.05. The Wellesley V4 team picked up a win in the consolation round with an impressive time of 8:31.94 and beat out Bates by nearly seven seconds.

The Blue Crew return to the water tomorrow morning to take on WPI, Bates, Trinity, and Rochester from Lake Quinsigamond in Worcester, Mass.
