Blue Crew Picks Up a Pair of Second Place Finishes at the National Invitational Rowing Championship

WORCESTER, Mass. – The Wellesley Varsity Eight (V8+) and Wellesley Second Varsity Eight (2V8+) finished second place in their races at the 2022 National Invitational Rowing Championship on Lake Quinsigamond on Sunday.

The V8+ came out on top in the morning heats, rowing a 6:50.430 to advance to the grand final. Ithaca was just behind in heat one with a time of 6:51.900. In the final bout, Ithaca squeaked by the Blue to win the Women's Varsity Eight Race with a time of 6:46.627. Wellesley finished in second place at 6:46.687, just .040 seconds behind.

Wellesley's 2V8+ also advanced to their final round after winning the third heat with a time of 7:02.695. In the grand final, Bates picked up their time and came away with the win at 6:59.413 and the Blue placed second at 7:06.083.

The Wellesley 3V8+ boat improved its time by four seconds in the final round and took a third place finish in the finals at 7:18.677. Bates took first place at 7:11.657 and Tufts placed second with a time of 7:16.010.

The Wellesley 4V+ was able to advance to the final round after rowing an 8:27.185 in the opening heats. The Blue finished in sixth place overall with an 8:36.050 in the final round.

Blue Crew will next compete at the two-day NCAA Division III Championship on May 27-28 at Nathan Benderson Park in Sarasota, Florida.
