Fencing Earns 4-1 Record at NFC Conference Meet No. 3

WELLESLEY, Mass. – The Blue fencing team finished a solid 4-1 at the NFC Conference Meet No. 3 on Saturday. Wellesley picked up wins over UNH, Sacred Heart, Dartmouth, and Vassar.

First year Samantha Renton (Rockville, Md.) finished with a perfect 9-0 day in three rounds for foil. Teammate Edith Po (Bernardsville, N.J.) earned six wins and suffered just one loss. Leading the way for Blue epee was Sam Wolstenholme-Britt (Cary, N.C) who sported an impressive 12-2 overall record. First year Elena Vona (Millstone, N.J.) was just behind with an 11-2 record. Junior Brooke Dodrill (Boca Raton, Fla.) went a best 9-2 for the sabre team and Makana Burch (Portland, Ore.) also had a winning record at 7-4.

Wellesley 27, UNH 0

The Blue opened up with a dominant victory over the Wildcats of New Hampshire. Saxena, Uyanik, and Boodell all went a perfect 3-0 in the foil round. UNH did not compete in epee or sabre.

Wellesley 9, Tufts 18

The lone loss of the day came in the second round versus Tufts University. Boodell and Giloli each went 2-1 in foil and Vona was also 2-1 in epee.

Wellesley 21, Sacred Heart 6

The Blue got its momentum back with a big win over the Pioneers of Sacred Heart. Foil swept the board with a 9-0 victory and epee followed with a dominant 8-1 performance. Dodrill continued to pace the Sabre squad with a 2-0 round.

Wellesley 23, Dartmouth 4

In a rout over Dartmouth, the Blue got perfect performances from Renton, Uyanik, and Po in foil. First year Mia Chao (Washington, D.C.) had a solid 2-1 record for sabre. 

Wellesley 19, Vassar 6

The final round of the day was confidently handled by the Blue. Wolstenholme-Britt provided a 3-0 match for the epee team and helped them win 7-2. Sabre also finished ahead 7-2 with 3-0 efforts from Burch and Dodrill.

The Blue are set to compete at the EWFC Championships on Sunday, February 20 hosted by Vassar College in Poughkeepsie, N.Y.
