MEDFORD, Mass. - Wellesley College fencing went 1-2 at the Tufts Invitational on Sunday.

The big story of the day was foil squad earning a 6-3 squad victory over Division I Northwestern. The squad was led by sophomore Ella Boodell (Edgemont, N.Y.) who went 8-1 on the day, and first year Gina Huang (Taipei, Taiwan) with six victories.

Also adding to the successful day against high level competition was epee squad's Kimberly Kimura (Los Angeles, Calif.) with six wins, first year Grace Xu (Toronto, Ontario) with three wins and first year Lily Millard (Selkirk, N.Y.) going a perfect 3-0. Adding three more wins was sabre squad's first year Sharon Huang (Toronto, Ontario)

Tufts 15, Wellesley 12

Epee squad won 6-3 in an all around competitive match against Tufts. Kimura recorded the only 3-0 for the Blue in epee while Xu and Boodell each had two wins. Senior Alexia Gilioli (New York, N.Y.), S. Huang, and sophomore Makana Burch (Portland, Ore.) each won one in sabre while G. Huang and Vona grabbed respective wins in foil and epee.

Northwestern 17, Wellesley 10

Boodell helped bolster foil's win with three wins, while G. Huang won two, and junior Edith Po (Bernardsville, N.J.) added one of her own. Kimura went 2-1 for epee while Xu got an additional win, and S. Huang added a win for sabre.

Wellesley 17, LIU 10

Foil dominated again with an 8-1 win over LIU that saw Boodell and G. Huang each go 3-0 while Po won two more matches. Millard clean swept three matches for epee while classmate Michelle Pan (Arlington, Mass.) won two matches and Kimura won one. Gilioli, S. Huang, and sophomore Mia Chao (Washington, D.C.) all got a win in sabre.

Wellesley competes on Thursday in a dual meet at the University of California San Diego at 11:00 EST.
