Wellelsey Fencing Earns Victory Over Brandeis, 14-13

WELLESLEY, Mass. - Wellesley College fencing won a thrilling 14-13 match over Brandeis in a dual meet on Tuesday night.

The Blue were backed by squad wins in epee and foil, with foil squad senior Alexia Gilioli (New York, N.Y.) going 3-0 on the night.

In epee the Blue went down 3-1 after the first round before storming back to win the final five matches and secure a hard fought victory. Senior Kimberly Kimura (Los Angeles, Calif.) and first year Grace Xu (Toronto, Ontario) both earned a pair of wins during the 5-0 run, while sophomore Elena Vona (Millstone, N.J.) and first year Michelle Pan (Arlington, Mass.) each grabbed a win.

Foil secured a 5-4 win bolstered by a clean sweep of three matches from Gilioli, giving her 30 wins on the year. Junior Edith Po (Bernardsville, N.J.) took a win in the first round while senior Sejal Saxena (Chappaqua, N.Y.) won a third round match.

Brandeis won the sabre squad match 6-3. First year Sharon Huang (Toronto, Ontario) took two matches for the Blue while senior Hunter Dodrill (Boca Raton, Fla.) recorded a 30th season victory in round two.

Wellesley next competes on Sunday, February 5 at 10:00 at the Northeast Fencing Conference (NFC) Meet No. 3 at Tufts. Brandeis competes this Sunday at 9:00 AM at the Eric Sollee Invitational at MIT.
