Bio

Siarhei Shachanin was named one of Wellesley College's Assistant Fencing Coaches in 2022.

Shachanin comes to Wellesley after working as a Sabre coach for four years at Zeta Fencing in Ashland, Mass. Shachanin has previous experience as a fencing coach at the First Sabers Fencing Club in Minsk, Belarus. He also coached at the Belarus Fencing Union from 2012-2013. 

An accomplished fencer in his own right, Shachanin was a top talent junior on the international fencing circuit, coming in 2nd place at the 2015 U23 European Championships in Italy, and 3rd place at the 2014 European Championships in Georgia. Shachanin holds 15 gold medals for Champions of the Republic of Belarus Juniors, and three gold medals for Champions of the Republic of Belarus U23's. In 2017, Shachanin placed 21st at the Adult European Championships in Georgia, while team Belarus placed 9th. 

Aside from fencing, Shachanin graduted from the Belarus State University of Physical Culture in 2016, where he received his education as a fencing coach.
