Wellesley Golf Climbs Leaderboard to take 5th at MHC Invitational

SOUTH HADLEY, Mass. -- Wellesley College golf dropped 15 strokes on Sunday, jumping up to fifth place in the final team standings at the 2019 Mount Holyoke College Invitational at the par-72, 6,575 yard The Orchards Golf Club. 

Wellesley (335-320-655) entered the day one stroke behind Ithaca and six strokes behind Hamilton, but the Blue leaped past both teams to finish in fifth place. Williams (306-293-599) earned the team title, followed by NYU in second (313-309-622) and Middlebury in third (310-312-622) via a tiebreaker. Amherst College finished 18 strokes ahead of the Blue in fourth (322-315-637). Daniella Bambola of Cortland defeated Olive White from Williams in a one-hole playoff to take home the individual title.

Senior Ryan MacVicar (Tuscaloosa, Ala.) dropped three strokes to lead the Blue on the individual leaderboard. MacVicar finished at +17 and in a seven-way tie for 20th with a two day total of 161 (82-79). Sophomore Hannah Blonder (Westwood, Mass.) was two strokes back of MacVicar at +19 and in a tie for 29th (82-81-163), while sophomore Ella Warburg (Mercer Island, Wash.) made the biggest leap up the scoreboard, dropping seven strokes (86-79) to finish the weekend +21 and in a tie for 32nd place (165).

First year Caroline MacVicar (Tuscaloosa, Ala.) posted a final round 81, after opening with an 85 on Saturday, to finish in a tie for 35th (166, +22). Sophomore Aine Kenwood (Potomac, Md.) jumped from T56 up to a tie for 52nd thanks to a final round 85. Kenwood dropped eight strokes from her opening day 93. 

Wellesley golf returns to action next weekend, September 28-29, at the George Phinney Jr. Golf Classic, hosted by Middlebury College.
