Wellesley Lacrosse Falls to Albright (Pa.), 15-7

MARCY, N.Y. -- Wellesley College lacrosse dropped the final game of the team's two-game New York roadtrip, 15-7, to Albright College (Pa.) on Sunday at SUNY Polytechnic Wildcat Field. 

Senior Kelly Baumann (South Huntington, N.Y.) scored five goals and had four caused turnovers, four ground balls, and an assist to lead Albright (4-2 overall). Sophomore Lauren China (Stewartstown, Pa.) added four goals and two assists, while first year Chloe Fornoff (Delta, Pa.) netted two goals and picked-up a pair of ground balls. Sophomores Abbie Most (Lancaster, Pa.) Ashleigh Tortorice (West Babylon, N.Y.), and Maddie Taylor (Westminster, Md.), and first year Abigail Hai (Auburn, N.Y.) also scored for the Lions. 

Junior Carson Dennis (Grosse Pointe Farms, Mich.) and sophomore Eleanor Mallett (Berwick, Maine) each scored twice for Wellesley (1-3 overall). Junior Kat Gallison (Portsmouth, R.I.) scored her seventh goal of the season and was one of four Wellesley players with two ground balls. Junior Louise Conaty (Wilmington, Del.) and sophomore Cassia Schuler (Portland, Ore.) also scored for the Blue in the setback. Senior Maya Sullivan (Cumberland, R.I.) had a team-high two caused turnovers. 

China and Fornoff scored back-to-back Albright goals to open the game before Schuler netted her third of the year at 24:13 to cut the Wellesley deficit to one, 2-1. The Lions responded with goals from Baumann and China to stretch the lead to 4-1 by the 18:11 mark of the first. Dennis followed, netting her first at 14:26 to make the score 4-2, but Albright ran-off four straight goals to close out the first half with an 8-2 lead. Baumann scored the final goal in the run at 1:59 to send the Lions into the break with the six-goal edge. 

Albright stretched the lead to 10-2 in the opening minutes of the second, with Moist scoring her first at 24:47 and China completing her hat trick on a free position attempt at 23:16. Mallett scored back-to-back free position goals to pull the Blue within six at the 18:57 mark, but the Lions immediately responded to stretch the lead back to eight. China set-up Fornoff at 17:43 and Taylor finished on a feed from Baumann at 16:09 to make the score 12-4. Baumann netted two more over the final 11:54 of regulation as the Lions closed out the 15-7 victory. 

Albright finished with a 39-17 advantage in shots and a 27-12 edge in ground balls. Wellesley sophomore Lorna Li (Taunton, Mass.) made 13 saves to move to 1-3 on the year. Junior Terae Mason (Darby Township, Pa.) turned back six Blue shots in the Albright goal to improve to 4-2 overall.

Wellesley will play at Curry in non-conference action on Wednesday, March 18, at 6:30 PM. Albright will travel to Elizabethtown on Saturday, March 14, for a 1:00 PM contest.
