WELLESLEY, Mass. – Sophomore Erica Chalmers (Natick, Mass.) and junior Maddie Carlborg (Burbank, Calif.) each tallied a goal, as Wellesley College soccer earned a 2-0 victory over visiting Simmons College on day one of the Babson Classic.

Chalmers put the Blue ahead at 23:03 of the first, as the sophomore scored the Blue's first goal of the season and the first goal of her collegiate career. Less than a minute after Chalmers checked into the contest, sophomore Gen Crotty (Oakville, Ontario, Canada) found Chalmers on a pass through the midfield that Chalmers buried to the right of Simmons goalkeeper Briana Hayes (Manorville, N.Y.) to make the score 1-0.

Hayes made seven saves in the contest, dropping to 0-2 on the season, as Wellesley outshot the Sharks 15-6 while getting nine shots on goal.

With Wellesley leading 1-0 after the half, Carlborg netted her first goal of the season, sending a high arching strike from 30 yards out into the upper corner of the goal to the left of Hayes to make the score 2-0.

Senior Kat Goldsmith (Armonk, N.Y.) recorded her first shutout and victory of the season for the Blue, playing the full 90 minutes and making one save.

Wellesley will return to the field tomorrow afternoon at 2:30 PM when they host Lesley University. Simmons will travel across town to take on Babson tomorrow at 2:30 PM.
