WELLESLEY, Mass. – Mount Holyoke got a first half penalty kick goal from senior Ashleigh Hartsock (Stevensville, Md.) and 14 saves from junior goalkeeper Zoe Marshall (Mississauga, Ontario) to earn a 1-0 New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) victory over Wellesley College soccer on Saturday afternoon.

The Lyons are now 8-3-1 overall following their second consecutive 1-0 victory. Mount Holyoke also improves to 3-1-1 in conference games, while dropping the Blue to 5-4-2 overall and 0-3-1 in NEWMAC play.

A Wellesley foul in the penalty area in the 29th minute set up the game's only goal, as Hartsock stepped to the spot and beat Wellesley senior goalkeeper Kat Goldsmith (Armonk, N.Y.) for her fourth goal of the season.

For the remainder of the contest, Marshall and the Mount Holyoke defense stood up to the Wellesley attack. In all, the Blue finished the game with a 24-3 edge in shots and a 14-2 advantage in shots on goal. The Blue defense also held Mount Holyoke without an attempt on goal after halftime, as Wellesley outshot the Lyons 15-0 after the break.

The Lyons held a 5-4 advantage in corner kick opportunities, but a late corner kick chance for the Blue nearly set up the tying goal in the final minute. However, an effort in front of goal went wide, as Mount Holyoke held on for the 1-0 win.

Wellesley will host MIT to continue NEWMAC play on Tuesday, October 13, at 3:00 PM. Mount Holyoke will also host a home conference game on Tuesday, when they welcome Coast Guard at 6:30 PM.
