WORCESTER, Mass. – Second half goals from junior Maddie Carlborg (Burbank, Calif.) and senior Juliette Fry (Atlanta, Ga.) helped Wellesley College soccer earn to its second straight New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) victory, as the Blue defeated host Clark University, 2-0, on Tuesday night.

The Blue are now 7-5-2 overall and 2-4-1 in NEWMAC games. Clark moves to 2-11-1 (0-6-1 NEWMAC) with the setback.

Following a scoreless first half that saw the Blue outshoot the Cougars by an 8-3 clip, Wellesley broke through for a pair of goals in the second half.

Carlborg netted the eventual game-winner in the 51st minute when her unassisted effort put the Blue up, 1-0. For Carlborg, it was her team-leading sixth of the season and her first goal in seven games. Fry then added an insurance marker later in the second half, scoring her fourth goal of the year in the 75th minute.

Wellesley finished the second half with an 8-4 edge in shots. The Blue outshot the Cougars by a 16-7 margin in the game and also held a slight advantage in corner kicks, 5-4.

Clark goalkeeper Gabby Paolini (North Potomac, Md.) made eight saves for the Cougars. In the Wellesley goal, senior Kat Goldsmith (Armonk, N.Y.) turned aside a pair of attempts to pick up her second straight shutout and eighth of the year.

Wellesley will return home to host Smith on Saturday, October 24, at 12:00 PM. Clark will also play Saturday, when they travel to Wheaton for a 2:00 PM kickoff.
