FARMINGTON, Maine – Trailing 1-0 with under 20 minutes to play, Wellesley College soccer scored three unanswered goals to earn a 3-1 victory over The University of Maine at Farmington on Saturday afternoon at Leib Field.

The Blue's second consecutive come-from-behind victory helps the squad improve to 2-0-0 on the season. Me.-Farmington drops the team's season opener to move to 0-1-0.

Wellesley built a substantial advantage in shots in the contest, holding a 20-7 edge while also managing to get 13 shots on target. Despite Me.-Farmington only managing six shots on frame, the host Beavers snagged the lead midway through the second half when sophomore Ashley Gleason (Scarborough, Maine) buried a cross from senior Bridget Humphrey (Jefferson, Maine) into the upper left corner of the Wellesley net at 66:52.

The Blue trailed for just over six minutes before first year Carley Phillips (Waterford, Conn.) scored her second game-tying goal of the week, and her third in two games this season, to tie the score at 72:53. Phillips broke free from the Me.-Farmington backline before slotting the ball low and to the right of goalkeeper Kiana Thompson (Industry, Maine).

Thompson turned aside Blue attempts from junior Gen Crotty (Toronto, Ontario, Canada) and Phillips before senior Kyla Petrie (Denton, Texas) put Wellesley ahead at 80:10, scoring her first goal of the season. Petrie's goal would stand as the game-winner.

Wellesley locked up the victory exactly four minutes later when Phillips found senior Maddie Carlborg (Burbank, Calif.) with a cross in the penalty area. The senior forward then ripped the ball into the top of the net to score her first goal of the season and the ninth of her career.

First year goalkeeper Olivia Reckley (Grosse Ile, Mich.) made five saves to earn her second win of the season (2-0-0) for the Blue. Thompson turned back 10 shots in the loss for the Beavers.

Wellesley soccer will return home for their next match on Saturday, September 10, at 12:00 PM versus Elms College. Me.-Farmington will host Southern Maine on Wednesday, September 7, at 7:00 PM.
