WELLESLEY, Mass. – Visiting Lesley University scored one goal in each half to earn a 2-0 victory over Wellesley College soccer on Sunday at the Wellesley Invitational.

The Lynx improve to 3-1-1 on the year, dealing the Blue their first setback of the season to drop Wellesley to 3-1-0.

Lesley junior captain Samantha Turnbull (Holtsville, N.Y.) opened the scoring in the first half with her first goal of the season. Turnbull corralled the ball in the box and took a touch before finding the back of the Wellesley net following Lesley's second corner kick opportunity of the game at 21:53. The Lynx finished with a 5-1 advantage in corner kick chances in the contest.

The visitors doubled their lead in the second half when senior Cassidy Hopkins (Porter, Texas) scored her first goal of the season on an unassisted effort just over half an hour after the break. Hopkins scored on a strike from 12 yards out at 76:45.

The Blue had their chances in the contest, outshooting Lesley 12-6, but couldn't find the back of the net. The Blue also got seven shots on target and just missed taking the lead in the first when senior Maddie Carlborg (Burbank, Calif.) rang a shot of the crossbar. Carlborg registered a team-high three shots for the Blue.

In goal, Lesley junior Lilly Donovan (Newburyport, Mass.) made seven saves to improve 2-1 on the year. Wellesley first year Olivia Reckley (Grosse Ile, Mich.) made three saves to drop to 3-1 overall.

Both teams will return to action on Wednesday, September 14. Wellesley will travel to Endicott for a 7:00 PM contest, while Lesley will return home to host Tufts at 8:00 PM.
