BOSTON, Mass. -- Two first-half goals sent Wellesley College soccer to a 2-0 shutout over Emerson College in a New England Men's and Women's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) matchup on Saturday afternoon at Rotch Field.

The Blue snapped a three-game skid with the victory, improving to 4-8-2 on the season and 3-4-0 in the NEWMAC. The Lions are now 3-7-2 overall and 3-3 in conference.

Sophomore Kendall You Mak (San Francisco, Calif.) registered their first career goal in the opening ten minutes of play, scoring unassisted to beat Emerson senior goalkeeper Laura Gartelman (Hamburg, NY) at 8:41. Gartelman played the first 73 minutes in net for Emerson, allowing both Wellesley goals while making three saves. First year Mary Elizabeth Allen (Miami Shores, Fla.) finished out the final 17 minutes and turned away two shots.

The Blue doubled their lead in the 27th minute when senior Melise Knowles (Diablo, Calif.) scored her fourth goal of the season, fending off a defender before firing the ball past the dive of Gartelman. Wellesley outshot Emerson, 6-4, in the first half and 14-7 in the contest. The Lions held the 3-2 advantage in corner kicks.

Wellesley sophomore Olivia Reckley (Grosse Ile, Mich.) finished with two saves to record her fourth win of the year.

Both teams continue conference play on Tuesday, October 17 at 7:00 PM. Wellesley will play at Clark and Emerson will travel to Coast Guard.
