Wheaton Tops Wellesley Soccer in NEWMAC Play, 1-0

NORTON, Mass. -- First year Chloe Troy (Wethersfield, Conn.) scored an unassisted goal in the 49th minute to lead Wheaton College to a 1-0 New England Women's & Men's Athletics Conference (NEWMAC) over Wellesley College soccer on Tuesday at Mirrione Stadium. 

The Lyons picked-up their first conference win of the season in the contest, improving to 1-2-0 in the NEWMAC and 8-2-1 overall. Wellesley is now 3-6-1 overall and 0-3-1 in conference.

Following a scoreless first half, Troy collected a loose ball inside the Wellesley penalty area and beat Wellesley goalkeeper Olivia Reckley (Grosse Ile, Mich.) with a shot from outside the six-yard box. Wheaton finished the game with a 22-6 advantage in shots on goal and a 9-4 edge in shots on target. First year Eleanor Mallett (Berwick, Maine) registered three shots to lead the Blue.

Reckley (3-6-1) totaled eight saves for the Blue in the setback. Wheaton junior goalkeeper Alexa Barbagallo (Bridgewater, N.J.) stopped all four Blue shots on goal to earn her fourth career shutout. Barbagallo is now 8-2-1 on the year.

Both sides return to action on Saturday, October 6. The Blue will head to Springfield for a 3:00 PM contest and Wheaton will play at Smith at 2:00 PM.
