Wheaton Blanks Blue Soccer, 4-0, in NEWMAC Action

WELLESLEY, Mass. --  Sophomore Chloe Troy (Wethersfield, Conn.) tallied a goal and an assist to lead visiting Wheaton College to a 4-0 New England Women's & Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) victory over Wellesley College soccer on Tuesday afternoon at the Wellesley Fields Complex.

Wheaton, who also got a five save shutout from senior Alexa Barbagallo (Bridgewater, N.J.), improves to 5-2-3 overall and 2-1-0 in conference play with the victory. Wellesley is now 4-7-0 overall (1-3-0 NEWMAC).

Wheaton took a 1-0 lead in the fourth minute when Troy connected on a header on a corner kick from junior Kyla Magalhaes (Naugatuck, Conn.) at 3:48. Troy then helped the Lyons take a 2-0 lead at 18:52, setting-up classmate Jaime Rattenni (West Greenwich, R.I.) with a cross into the area that Rattenni flicked into the Wellesley goal with a quick backheal. The Lyons made the score 3-0 before the break, as Claire Donfield (New Providence, N.J.) scored the first of her career when she finished on a through ball from classmate Sadie Recht (Los Angeles, Calif.) at 37:51.

The Lyons added the team's fourth goal 1:45 in the second half when junior Hannah Lepordo (Sudbury, Mass.) picked up an assist on a throw-in, finding sophomore Jaime Rattenni (West Greenwich, R.I.) who finished for her fourth goal of the season. Wheaton ended the game with a 21-15 advantage in shots and a 17-5 lead in shots on goal.

Wellesley senior Olivia Reckley (Grosse Ile, Mich.) made 13 saves in the setback (4-7-0). Barbagallo earned her third shutout of the season to move to 5-2-3 on the year.

Wellesley returns home to host Springfield for Senior Day on Saturday, October 12, at 2:00 PM. Wheaton will host Smith in NEWMAC action at 1:00 PM on Saturday.
