Blue Swimming & Diving Cruises to 198-97 Dual Victory over Mount Holyoke

BOSTON — Wellesley College swimming & diving improved to 3-0 in dual meets with a dominating 198-97 victory over New England Women's & Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) and Seven Sisters rival Mount Holyoke College on Saturday at the MHC Natatorium. 

First year Shawyuan Hsu (Taipei, Taiwan) paced the Blue with three individual victories. Hsu sprinted to a 50 Free victory in 24.90. She followed that victory just two events later with a winning time of 54.72 in the 100 Free. Hsu concluded her day with a time of 2;14.69 to win the 200 IM. 

Sophomores Jessica Wegner (Taipei, Taiwan) and Shelby Ripp (St. Louis, Mo.) also won multiple individual events in the Wellesley victory. Wegner finished first in the 100 Back (1:00.95), while also winning her signature event, the 100 Fly in 1:00.27. Ripp took first in the 400 IM, leading a Wellesley only field with a time of 4:56.96. Ripp added a time of 1;11.92 to win the 100 Breaststroke later in the meet. 

Wellesley earned five other individual victories from five different swimmers in four different strokes in the remaining events. The Blue also swept both relays. First year Elizabeth Park (Dix Hills, N.Y.) earned a victory for the third straight meet, capturing the 200 Free in 2:01.64. Sophomore Julie Mason (Lakeville, Mass.) touched the wall first for Wellesley in the 200 Fly with a time of 2:21.54, while first year Lydia Choi (Seoul, South Korea) was first in the 200 Back with a time of 2:15.59. 

Senior Danielle Peterson (Livingston, N.J.) and sophomore Paulina Gonzalez (Caracas, Venezuela) each added victories in the 200 Breaststroke and the 500 Free, respectively. Peterson finished in 2:34.70, while Gonzalez was first in the distance free event with a time of 5:35.93. 

Peterson also teamed with Wegner, Choi, and sophomore Marisa Papagelis (Westborough, Mass.) to win the meet opening 200 Medley relay in 1:54.61. The Blue ended the meet with a victory in the 400 Free Relay, behind a time of 3:48.86 from Park, Wegner, Gonzalez, and Papagelis. 

MHC senior Samantha Nemivant (Scottsdale, Ariz.) won both one-meter (233.90) and three-meter (249.35) diving to lead the Lyons on the afternoon. Junior Ashton Bliss (Yorktown, Va.) also took first in the 1000 Free with a time of 11:32.58. 

Wellesley will close out the first half of the team's schedule at the annual MIT Invitational, December 6-8, at MIT'a Zesiger Center Pool.
