Wegner, Park Set New Program Marks for Blue Swim & Dive at MIT Invite

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. -- Sophomore Jessica Wegner (Taipei, Taiwan) and first year Elizabeth Park (Dix Hills, N.Y.) each set new program records as Wellesley College swimming & diving competed on day two of the MIT Winter Invitational on Saturday at MIT's Zesiger Center pool. 

In a 100 IM time trial on Saturday afternoon, Wegner topped Dorothy Ren's ('16) mark of 1:00.94 set in 2013 with a new program record of 1:00.91. Wegner now holds Wellesley individual program records in the 50 and 100 Fly and the 100 IM, and as part of the 200 Free Relay team. Wegner also finished third in the 100 Back on Saturday evening, earning a time of 59.10.

Park set a new program mark in the 100m Breast, racing to a time of 1:06.01 during Saturday's final session to eclipse the previous record of 1:06.19, set by Charlotte Harris '16 during her senior season. 

Tufts continues to lead the field with 1223 points. MIT is in second with 1022.5 points, while the Blue have moved up from fourth to third (361.5) and Wheaton has moved from fifth to fourth (342). RPI (339) is now in fifth, with Simmons (177) and Keene State (86) following in sixth and seventh. 

Wellesley's 200 Free Relay opened Saturday night with a sixth place finish. First year Shawyuan Hsu (Taipei, Taiwan), senior Danielle Peterson (Livingston, N.J.), junior Hannah May (Cincinnati, Ohio), and Wegner combined for a time of 1:38.85. Hsu went on to take sixth in the 50 Free in 24.69, while May had the top Blue time in the 200 Free, finishing fifth in 1:54.84.

Wegner, Park, senior Maggie Haley (Shade Side, Md.), and May closed out Saturday in fifth place in the 400 Medley Relay (4:01.06). Haley was also the top Wellesley finisher in the 200 Fly earlier in the earning, taking 10th in 2:14.01. 

Also competing for the Blue during Saturday's finals, sophomore Shelby Ripp (St. Louis, Mo.) was 15th in the 400 IM (4:50.09) and first year Lily Duff (Scituate, Mass.) was 10th in 3-meter diving (194.55). 

Action from MIT continues Sunday, December 8, with prelims at 10:00 AM and finals at 6:00 PM. Sunday's competition includes the: 200 Medley Relay, 500 Free, 200 Back, 100 Fly, 200 Breast, 100 Free, 200 IM, and the 400 Free Relay (Finals Only).
