The Wellesley College tennis team advanced to the second round of the 2009 NCAA Championships with a 5-0 victory over Endicott College on Friday morning. The Blue, now 18-5 on the year, handed the Gulls (16-2) just their second loss of the season in the sweep.

Wellesley tennis, ranked #19 in Division III, fell to #6 Amherst College today, 8-1, at the indoor tennis facility at Mount Holyoke College in South Hadley, MA. The win lifts Amherst to 12-1 on the season, while the Blue fell to 17-6 and snapped a four-match winning streak.

After sweeping through the first three matches of the Seven Sisters Championship with relative ease, the Vassar College and Wellesley College women’s tennis teams faced off in a dramatic title match for the eighth straight year. Yet again Wellesley claimed the title, its fifth straight, after edging Vassar 3-2 despite facing an early 2-0 deficit on Sunday at Walker Field House.

Wellesley Tennis, currently #10 in the nation, swept Bryn Mawr and Smith today in the Seven Sisters Championship at Vassar College. The Blue, having just returned from its Spring Break training trip to Georgia, defeated Bryn Mawr 5-0, dropping only 11 games in 10 sets. Wellesley was equally strong against Smith, dropping just six games in five straight-set wins.

Playing short handed for the second straight match without Senior Co-Captain Jennifer Schwarzkopf, the Wellesley Blue showed a lot of heart, but fell short today 8-1 against Emory. This was The Blue's second and final match of the Fab 5 invitational tournament held each year for the nations best Division 3 tennis teams.

Wellesley Tennis, short-handed without senior co-captain Jennifer Schwarzkopf, lost 6-3 to MIddlebury today at Smokerise Country club in Stone Mountain, GA. This was the Blue's first match of the spring break, and while they fought hard, they fell just short. The team was led by first-year Grace Cheng, who won her #1 doubles match with fellow first-year Marie Watanabe, and then followed it up with an incredible, come-from-behind 3-set victory, 6-7 (5), 6-4, 10-8 superbreaker. Also cashing in with a victory was sophomore Jacqueline Shen, who posted a 6-0, 6-4 win.

The Dartmouth women's tennis team won its third straight match downing Wellesley College 7-0 this afternoon at the Boss Tennis Center and Gordon Pavilion. The match marked the return of former Big Green assistant, Brian Kuscher, who is in his first year as Wellesley's head coach. Dartmouth moves to 4-6 on the spring season, while Wellesley is 0-1, with an overall record of 9-3 for 2008-09.

The top seeded Wellesley College tennis team defeated the second seeded Massachusetts Institute of Technology 5-3 in the 2008 New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Championship this afternoon at Mount Holyoke College. As a result of their fifth title in a row, the Blue secured a spot in the 2009 NCAA Division III National Tournament, which will be played in the spring. Wellesley cruised to a 5-0 triumph over fourth seeded Babson College in the Semifinal Round earlier today. MIT moved on to the title match by upending third seeded Wheaton College 5-1.

Top seeded Wellesley cruised to a 5-0 victory over fourth seeded Babson College in one semifinal matchup. The Blue swept the doubles matches and later added two singles wins to seal things. They were paced by first year Marie Watanabe and junior Mohona Siddique, who each picked up victories in their respective singles and doubles contests.
