No. 34 Blue Tennis Falls to No. 23 Skidmore, 5-4

WELLESLEY, Mass. – The No. 34 Wellesley College tennis team suffered a close 5-4 defeat to No. 23 Skidmore College in a non-conference matchup inside Dorothy Towne Fieldhouse on Sunday.

No. 10 regionally ranked sophomores Annissa Mu (Saratoga, Calif.) and Melinda Alviar (Indianapolis, Ind.) picked up the lone doubles win for the Blue to begin the day. The duo beat Audrey Soohoo (Alameda, Calif.) and Lily Feldman (Bettendorf, Iowa) by a score of 8-4 in the No.1 doubles match. Senior Libby Chang (San Marino, Calif.) and Michaela Markwart (Hanover, Mass.) fell 8-4 in the No. 2 doubles to Grace Truong (Burke, Va.) and Ella Provost (Hamilton, Mass.). Rounding out the doubles was Konika Dhull (Chandigarh, India) and Sofia Carlsson (Alingsas, Sweden) over senior Michelle Shen (Dallas, Texas) and sophomore Cristiana DeAgazio (Winchester, Mass.) by a score of 8-3.

Markwart continued her success in the No. 1 singles slot with a comfortable 6-2, 6-3 win over Katherine Almquist (Union Pier, Mich.). The Blue got a second victory on the No. 2 court after Mu handled Feldman 7-6, 6-0. Skidmore then followed up with a pair of victories from Dhull over Shen and Truong over Chang. The Thoroughbreds eventually closed out the match after Provost and Alviar went into a tiebreaker set. Alviar took the first set 6-2, but Provost bounced back and won 6-3, 6-3. Wellesley ended the day with one more victory after DeAgazio won 7-6, 6-2 over Carlsson in the No. 6 match.

The Blue remain at home and host Emerson on Tuesday, April 12 at 4:30 PM. Skidmore will next play at Vassar on Saturday, April 16 at 1:00 PM.
