Six From Wellesley Tennis Named to NEWMAC All-Conference Second Team

WESTWOOD, Mass. – The New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) has announced the 2022 Women's Tennis Major Awards and All-Conference selections with six members of the Wellesley tennis team earning All-Conference Second Team honors.

The NEWMAC Women's Tennis All-Conference Team includes a First Team of six singles and three doubles teams with a Second Team of six singles and four doubles teams, which were voted on by the nine women's tennis coaches.

Annissa Mu | So. | Saratoga, Calif. | NEWMAC Second Team All-Conference No. 2 Singles

Mu collected the honor at No. 2 singles for the first time in her career. The sophomore finished the regular season with an 11-3 overall record, including 9-3 at No. 2 and 2-0 at No. 1. Mu also dominated in NEWMAC play going 6-1 overall.

Michelle Shen | Sr. | Dallas, Texas | NEWMAC Second Team All-Conference No. 3 Singles

The senior earned All-Conference honors for the first time after finishing 5-1 in the NEWMAC at the No. 3 spot. Shen was able to win her match in the NEWMAC semifinals against Babson and finished the year 8-5 overall.

Melinda Alviar | So. | Indianapolis, Ind. | NEWMAC Second Team All-Conference No. 4 Singles

Alviar finished the season 10-4 in singles matches, including an impressive 3-1 at the No. 4 spot. The sophomore began the season in No. 5, going 6-2 before making the transition. Alviar also went 6-1 in conference play and held a lead in the NEWMAC semifinals before the match was unfinished.

Cristiana DeAgazio | So. | Winchester, Mass. | NEWMAC Second Team All-Conference No. 6 Singles

DeAgazio dominated in the No. 6 spot for the Blue, going 7-1 overall with five of the wins coming in conference play. The sophomore also earned a 6-1, 6-1 win in the NEWMAC semifinals over Runsi Patro of Babson.

Annissa Mu & Melinda Alviar | NEWMAC Second Team All-Conference No. 1 Doubles

Ranked No. 7 in the Northeast, Mu and Alviar compiled a 9-5 overall record and went 5-2 in conference play. The duo was able to win five NEWMAC Doubles Team of the Week Honors and picked up a win over Angle Le and Arianna Castellanos of Whitman College who were ranked No. 12 in the country.

Michaela Markwart & Libby Chang | NEWMAC Second Team All-Conference No. 2 Doubles

The senior duo put together an impressive 4-1 conference record and went 6-6 overall. The biggest win of the season came in a 8-5 victory over Shanaya Naik and Juliette Moschella to help the Blue capture the No. 2 seed in the NEWMAC Tournament.

Cristiana DeAgazio & Michelle Shen | NEWMAC Second Team All-Conference No. 3 Doubles

The duo finished with an exceptional 9-2 record and captured a team-high six wins in conference play. They were named the NEWMAC Doubles Team of the Week on May 2 after picking up huge wins over Babson and Smith.
