Mu Leads Tennis with Two Victories on Saturday at Wellesley Invitational

BABSON PARK, Mass. - Wellesley College tennis continued play at the Wellesley Invitational on Saturday with singles matches against Babson, Merrimack, and Stonehill at the Babson Tennis Courts. 

Junior Annissa Mu (Saratoga, Calif.) picked up a pair of victories to lead the Blue on the day. Mu took on Merrimack's Allyson Nerf (Boca Raton, Fla.) and Stonehill's Steffi Antao (New Hyde Park, N.Y.) in singles, picking-up a 6-3, 6-0 win over Nerf and a 6-1, 6-2 win over Antao. Classmate Jennifer Fan (Vancouver, British Columbia) battled Lindsay MacDonald (South Yarmouth, Mass.) of Stonehill in her first match, coming up short in a 6-3, 6-0 loss. In her second match of the day, Fan rebounded with a 6-3, 4-6, (10-6) victory over Stonehill's Gabrielle Lindsay (Bloomington, Minn.).

Junior Melinda Alviar (Indianapolis, Ind.) took on Matia Cristiani (Miami, Fla.) of Babson and Dzhastina Mikhnova (Togliatti, Russia) of Merrimack. The junior dropped both matches, 6-1, 6-3 to Cristiani and a tight 6-3, 7-5 match to Mikhnova. Senior Celeste Tran (Los Altos, Calif.) faced off against Camila Zuluaga Rodriguez (Medellin, Colombia) and Jenna Gustafson (Warwick, R.I.), both from Stonehill. The senior dropped both matches, 6-2, 6-3 to Zuluaga Rodriguez and 6-4, 6-2 to Gustafson.

Junior Cristiana DeAgazio (Winchester, Mass.) squared off with Babson's Mariana Campos (Houston, Texas). The Babson first year got the upper hand, 6-2, 6-0 in DeAgazio's first match but in her second match, DeAgazio scored a win against Merrimack's Nikala Tuffanelli (Rocklin, Calif.), 7-5, 7-6 (7-4). First-year Isabella DeAgazio (Winchester, Mass.) lost to Babson's Kamila Stasiowska (Burlington, Conn.), 6-0, 6-1, before losing a closer match to Merrimack's Giulia Martins Cavalcante, 6-3, 6-3.

Finally, first-year Emilee Pak (Chicago, Ill.) began her singles campaign with matches against Stonehill's Annaliese Beltran (Spring, Texas) and Caitlin McGloughlin of Merrimack. Pak's first match saw her drop the opening set 6-0, only to win the second 6-0 and finish off the comeback with a 10-8 tiebreaker for a win. In the second match againt Beltran, Pak dropped a 6-1, 4-6, 11-9 final.

The Blue will finish up the Wellesley Invitational tomorrow with play beginning at 11:00 AM.
