Wellesley Tennis Spotless Against Clark, 9-0

WELLESLEY, Mass. – Wellesley College tennis won all nine points in a NEWMAC shutout over Clark University on Tuesday at the Amy Batchelor '88, Trustee, Tennis Courts. The Blue improved to 11-4 overall and 6-1 in NEWMAC play. The Cougars fell to 3-11 overall and 0-8 in the NEWMAC.

Wellesley grabbed three points over Clark in doubles. First years Dalia Khera (Houston, Texas) and Veda Madhusudan (Short Hills, N.J.) starting the scoring with an 8-1 performance at No. 3 doubles against junior Emma Allen (West Boylston, Mass.) and first year Vavara Maltseva (Tres Cantos, Mass.)

Seniors Annissa Mu (Saratoga, Calif.) and Melinda Alviar (Indianapolis, Ind.) followed suit with an 8-0 sweep at No. 1 doubles over grad student Maeve McEnroe (Marion, Mass.) and sophomore Merielle Kane (Vienna, Maine).

Sophomore Emilee Pak (Chicago, Ill.) and first year Suzanne Xu (Boyds, Md.) defeated sophomore Crisi Patel (West Lebanon, N.H.) and first year Olivia Shipley (Winchendon, Mass.) 8-3 to finish the sweep at No. 3 doubles.

The Blue earned wins in straight sets at six singles spots. Mu, Xu, Alviar and Pak all recorded matching 6-0, 6-0 score lines at No, 1, 2, 3, and 4 singles.

First year Lily Cade (Minneapolis, Minn.) and senior Jennifer Fan (Vancouver, British Columbia) wrapped up the 9-0 match with wins at No. 5 and 6 singles. Cade registered a 6-0, 6-1 win over Allen at No. 5 singles. Fan defeated Maltseva 6-1, 6-0.

Next up, the Blue will play at Salve Regina at 3:00 PM on Friday, April 26. The Cougars travel to Mount Holyoke for the regular season finale at 12:00 PM on Saturday, April 27.
